Turkmenistan to Extend Cooperation Roadmap with the ILO Through 2026

On January 24, 2026, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, announced plans to extend the implementation of the cooperation roadmap with the International Labour Organization (ILO) until the end of 2026. This decision follows the positive outcomes achieved under the 2024–2025 roadmap and aims to further enhance labor rights and working conditions in the country.

Key Objectives of the Extended Roadmap

The extended roadmap focuses on several critical areas:

  • Strengthening Legal Frameworks: Enhancing the political and legal structures to prevent forced labor, including child labor.
  • Improving National Labor Legislation: Further refining Turkmenistan’s labor laws to align with international standards.
  • Enhancing Labor Rights Protections: Intensifying efforts by state institutions and trade unions to safeguard labor rights.
  • Data Management: Establishing a dedicated database for the calculation, collection, and analysis of labor rights indicators.

Commitment to International Standards

Turkmenistan's decision to extend the cooperation roadmap underscores its commitment to upholding international labor standards and improving the working conditions for its citizens. Regular dialogue between the ILO and the Government of Turkmenistan will continue, alongside systematic bilateral meetings involving relevant ministries and ILO experts to discuss preventive measures against child labor and other labor rights issues.
