Uganda Judiciary Introduces Digital Tool to Address Case Backlog

The Ugandan Judiciary has launched a new digital judgment writing tool valued at Shs2.2 billion, aiming to reduce the nation's case backlog, which currently exceeds 167,000 pending cases. This initiative seeks to enhance court efficiency by streamlining the judgment drafting process.

According to the Annual Judicial Report 2025, Uganda's courts are burdened with 167,353 pending cases. The heavy workload, with each judge handling between 500 and 600 cases annually, has contributed to significant delays, particularly in the judgment-writing phase.
