Turkmenistan Initiates Preparations for 2028 Year of International Law

On February 18, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan convened the first consultative meeting to implement the 2026 Action Plan for the preparation and holding of the Year of International Law in 2028. This initiative, proposed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, aims to strengthen international law as the foundation of global peace, trust, and sustainable development.

Comprehensive Action Plan

The Action Plan encompasses five key areas:

• Organizational Preparation: Establishing a framework for coordinating activities related to the Year of International Law.
• International Scientific and Practical Conferences: Hosting events to discuss and promote international legal standards.
• Educational and Awareness-Raising Initiatives: Implementing programs to educate the public and professionals about international law.
• International and Bilateral Events: Organizing meetings and collaborations with other nations to foster legal cooperation.
• Support for Youth and Scientific Initiatives: Encouraging young scholars and researchers to engage in international legal studies.

Strengthening International Legal Foundations

Special emphasis is placed on highlighting Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality as a significant political and legal instrument for maintaining stability and cooperation. The plan also includes creating a dedicated section on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official website to provide information about the Year of International Law and conducting extensive outreach through national and international media.

Following the meeting, relevant ministries and agencies confirmed their readiness for active interagency cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of the Action Plan.
