Trial Date Set for Former Teacher Accused of Child Abuse

On November 25, 2025, the Supreme Court of Gibraltar scheduled the trial of 42-year-old former teacher Clayton Busto, who faces nineteen counts of sexual offences against children. The trial is set to commence on June 1, 2026, and is expected to last three weeks.

Charges and Allegations

Busto was arrested in June 2024 following an investigation by the Royal Gibraltar Police’s Safeguarding team. He was initially charged with 14 counts of child abuse dating from 2008 to 2016, including:

  • Eight counts of sexual activity with a child
  • Two counts of encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity
  • One count of causing a child to watch a sexual act
  • Two counts of encouraging child sexual abuse material
  • One count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child

In January 2025, an additional five counts of sexual activity with a child were added. Busto has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Legal Proceedings

During a case management hearing, the availability of the four complainants was confirmed for the trial date. The case has been adjourned, and Busto remains on bail pending the trial.

Legal Implications

This case underscores the judicial system's dedication to addressing serious allegations of child sexual abuse and ensuring that such matters are thoroughly examined in court.
