Cape Verde Approves Statute of Judicial Magistrates

On March 2, 2025, Cape Verde's National Assembly unanimously approved the Statute of Judicial Magistrates, marking a significant step in strengthening the country's legal framework. This statute aims to:

• Enhance Remuneration: Increase salaries for magistrates to reflect the demands of their positions.
• Combat Procedural Delays: Implement measures to reduce delays in judicial processes.
• Modernize the Judicial System: Introduce reforms to update and improve the efficiency of the judiciary.

Minister of Justice Joana Rosa highlighted the importance of providing magistrates with salaries commensurate with their responsibilities and the ongoing reforms. The statute also addresses the status of tax and customs judges, ensuring their roles are appropriately recognized.
