Saint-Martin Beach Resort Faces Receivership Amid Closure

As of December 15, 2025, the Saint-Martin Beach Resort, the largest hotel in the French part of the island, has ceased operations. An application for receivership has been filed and is scheduled for examination by the Commercial Court of Pointe-à-Pitre on February 19, 2026.

The closure has put 137 direct jobs at risk, affecting numerous families and the local economy. Employees have reported a lack of clear communication regarding the future of the establishment and their employment status. Despite multiple inquiries from the Social and Economic Committee (CSE) to the group of investors, no substantial information has been provided.

The resort, formerly known as Riu, was acquired in June 2018 by the U.S.-based hotel investment company Sole Resorts. Management was entrusted to the Appel Leisure Group, with plans to operate under the Secrets St Martin Resort & Spa brand, affiliated with the Hyatt group.

The impending court decision is anticipated to determine the future of the resort and its employees, with significant implications for the local tourism industry and economy.
