The Togolese government has set the legal interest rate for the 2026 calendar year at 5.3637%, as per a decree adopted after a Council of Ministers meeting. This rate, determined by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), marks a slight decline from the 2025 peak of 5.5% but continues the upward trend observed since 2022. The legal interest rate applies to late payments when no specific rate has been contractually agreed upon, serving as compensation for creditors and a benchmark in various disputes.
