Six Detained in Brunei for Threatening National Security

On March 31, 2026, the Brunei Internal Security Department (ISD) issued detention orders against six local nationals under Section 3(1)(a) of the Internal Security Act (Chapter 133) for activities deemed prejudicial to national security. Investigations revealed that two individuals were operating as unregistered freelance agents and had conspired with four officers from the Immigration and National Registration Department. The group was involved in assisting foreign nationals to evade legal action for overstaying or possessing invalid or revoked travel documents, using counterfeit and official immigration stamps unlawfully, and collecting payments from the individuals involved. The ISD emphasized that such activities violate the country's laws and immigration regulations and pose risks to national security and the integrity of the Immigration Department.
