Phase 3 of Maintenance Enforcement Process Commences in Singapore

On July 1, 2026, Singapore's Ministry of Law (MinLaw) initiated Phase 3 of the Maintenance Enforcement Process (MEP), extending its applicability to all applications enforcing maintenance orders under the Women's Charter 1961, the Guardianship of Infants Act 1934, the Administration of Muslim Law Act 1966, and the Maintenance of Parents Act 1995. Previously, the MEP was limited to repeat applications or first-time applications involving arrears of at least $10,000.

The MEP, introduced following the Family Justice Reform Act 2023, aims to deter non-payment of maintenance, simplify enforcement procedures, facilitate sustainable maintenance outcomes, and enhance access to justice, particularly for self-represented applicants.

This expansion signifies the government's commitment to strengthening the enforcement of maintenance obligations and supporting individuals entitled to maintenance payments.
