Niue Customs Reinstates Original Clearance Procedures

The Niue Customs Office has announced that, effective 1 February 2026, customs clearance procedures for all imported goods will revert to the original requirements as outlined under the Customs Act 1966. This decision comes in response to prolonged instances of non-compliance, despite prior consultations and reminders issued to stakeholders. Under the reinstated procedures, goods will remain on hold until all statutory obligations have been fully met. Specifically, in accordance with Section 52A of the Customs Act 1966, goods will not be released unless a full goods declaration is submitted to Customs via the ASYCUDA system, the declaration is paid in full, and release authorization is received from the Niue Customs Department. Importers, carrier agents, and freight forwarders are encouraged to contact the Customs Office for clarification or assistance regarding these procedures. The Customs Office emphasizes that adherence to these requirements is essential to maintain compliance with customs regulations. This move underscores the government's commitment to enforcing customs laws and ensuring that all imported goods meet the necessary legal standards before entering the country. Stakeholders are urged to familiarize themselves with the original clearance procedures to avoid delays in the release of goods. The Customs Office appreciates the cooperation of all parties involved as they work together to uphold the integrity of Niue's import processes.
