Maldives Civil Court achieves record case resolutions in 2025

The Civil Court of the Maldives has reported a record-breaking performance in 2025, concluding over 6,000 cases—the highest number in the court's history. This achievement comes despite the court managing and processing cases manually, without an automated digital case management system.

Statistical Overview

In 2025, the Civil Court registered 5,680 new cases, marking a 10.46% increase compared to 2024. The court successfully concluded 6,718 cases, a substantial 23.68% increase from the previous year. These figures exclude miscellaneous matters such as temporary injunctions.

Judicial Productivity

With 17 judges currently presiding, this translates to an average of over 395 cases concluded per judge. The court also made rulings on 126 matters concerning procedural decisions and jurisdiction, and decided on 166 cases related to temporary injunctions, up from 103 such orders in 2024.

Future Prospects

The Civil Court maintains the largest bench of judges in the Maldivian judiciary to address the growing legal workload. Plans to implement an automated digital case management system are underway, aiming to further enhance efficiency and case resolution rates.
