ICC to Hold Hearing on Libyan Suspect El Hishri
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is set to hold a confirmation of charges hearing for Khaled Mohamed Ali El Hishri from May 19 to 21, 2026. El Hishri, a senior figure within the Special Deterrence Forces (SDF) in Tripoli, is accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed at Mitiga Prison between February 2015 and early 2020. This marks the first ICC case concerning atrocities in Libya since the UN Security Council referred the situation in 2011. The hearing will determine if the case proceeds to trial, offering a significant step toward justice for victims of serious crimes in Libya.
