Child Sexual Abuse Trial Begins at Gibraltar Supreme Court

On January 28, 2026, the Supreme Court of Gibraltar commenced the trial of 71-year-old Randolph Olivero, a resident of Laguna Estate, who faces seven counts related to child sexual abuse. Olivero has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include two counts of rape and five counts of sexual activity with a child.

Prosecution's Opening Statement

Prosecutor Kerrin Drago informed the jury that the allegations date back to 2011, when the complainant was between 13 and 14 years old. The court heard that the complainant, who resided in the UK, visited Gibraltar in June 2011, during which the first alleged assault occurred. She later moved to Gibraltar in September 2011, and the alleged abuse is said to have resumed in November of the same year.

Disclosure of Allegations

The complainant reportedly first disclosed the alleged abuse to a relative in 2012 and subsequently returned to the UK. In 2018, she fully disclosed the allegations to her mother and the UK police, leading to her return to Gibraltar to file a formal report with the Royal Gibraltar Police.

Legal Proceedings

The trial is ongoing, with the court expected to hear further testimonies and examine evidence related to the case. This trial underscores the judicial system's commitment to addressing serious allegations of child sexual abuse and ensuring justice is served.
