UN Special Rapporteur Seeks Input on Eritrea's Human Rights

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea has issued a call for input to inform his 2026 report to the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council. This initiative aims to gather comprehensive information on the current human rights landscape in Eritrea, focusing on issues such as freedom of expression, assembly, and the treatment of detainees.

Stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations, civil society groups, and individuals with relevant information, are encouraged to submit their inputs by March 16, 2026. The collected data will contribute to a detailed assessment of Eritrea's adherence to international human rights standards and will inform recommendations for policy and legal reforms.

This call for input underscores the international community's ongoing concern regarding human rights practices in Eritrea. The Special Rapporteur's report is expected to address critical areas such as the indefinite national service, restrictions on press freedom, and the status of political prisoners. The findings will be presented during the upcoming session of the Human Rights Council, providing a platform for dialogue and potential action to improve the human rights situation in Eritrea.

For more information on the submission process and guidelines, interested parties can visit the Center for Global Law and Justice's resource hub.
