Cape Verde Government Establishes Legal Framework for Court Attorney

On February 5, 2026, Cape Verde's Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, announced the establishment of a legal framework for appointing a dedicated prosecutor to the Court of Auditors. This initiative addresses the court's request for additional prosecutorial support due to a backlog of approximately 600 cases.

The government's intervention involved revising the legal framework of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, including the recent approval of the Statutes of Magistrates of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. These statutes contain provisions for an extraordinary competition to fill senior positions within the office.

Minister Rosa emphasized that the Attorney General holds the authority to assign a permanent prosecutor to the Court of Auditors, ensuring enhanced efficiency and responsiveness to the court's needs.
