Brunei arrests two over alleged agarwood theft

On July 18, 2026, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) detained two foreign nationals for alleged trespassing and theft of agarwood in Tutong District. Acting on a public tip-off, a special operation in Kampong Sebatang Sentul led to their apprehension. The suspects were taken to the Tutong Police Station for investigation.

If convicted under Section 27(1) of the Forestry Act (Chapter 46) for illegal possession of forest produce, they face fines up to BND50,000 (US$38,746), imprisonment up to five years, or both. The RBPF emphasized the seriousness of such offenses, highlighting their detrimental impact on the ecosystem and national heritage.

The RBPF continues to intensify patrols and enforcement operations, particularly in high-risk areas, in collaboration with government agencies. The public is encouraged to report information related to illegal forest activities, with assurances of confidentiality.
