Brazil's Supreme Court Orders Arrest of Former Banco Master Head

Brazil's Supreme Court has ordered the arrest of Daniel Vorcaro, the former head of Banco Master, amid a sweeping investigation into a multibillion-reais fraud. Justice Andreé Mendoneêa authorized the pretrial detention, citing evidence linking Banco Master to organized crime, money laundering, and threats. Raids were conducted in Seèo Paulo and Minas Gerais as part of the ongoing e2809cOperation Compliance Zero,e2809d targeting alleged criminal activities, including cyber intrusions and corruption. Authorities froze assets totaling 22 billion reais (about $4.2 billion).

Vorcaro, previously detained and released in November, is accused of belonging to a group known as "The Crew," which allegedly sought confidential information and resorted to intimidation. Among the most serious allegations is Vorcaroe28099s plan to orchestrate an attack on journalist Lauro Jardim, which sparked public outrage. Media outlet O Globo and the Brazilian Press Association strongly condemned the threats as assaults on press freedom and democracy. In November, Banco Master was shut down by Brazile28099s Central Bank after revelations of a 12-billion-reais ($2 billion) banking fraud.
