Police Closure of Constitutional Court Escalates Political Crisis

S03o Tomeé and Predncipe is facing heightened political and institutional tension following the closure of the Constitutional Court's premises by police officers and members of the Presidential Guard. The court confirmed that it had accepted an appeal related to the removal of its judges, further intensifying concerns about the state of constitutional order in the nation.

These developments have sparked unease over the separation of powers, the functioning of key state institutions, and adherence to the Constitution. Political analyst Liberato Moniz stated, "What is happening around the Constitutional Court is extremely worrying because it touches the heart of the rule of law and the balance of powers." He warned that actions affecting the court's operations and the status of its judges risk eroding public trust in the judiciary.

Moniz emphasized that the manner in which the authorities and the judiciary navigate this standoff will be decisive in determining whether the country can restore institutional stability. "The priority must be to safeguard constitutional principles and ensure that institutions are allowed to function without interference," he added.
