On February 2, 2026, Turkmenistan launched a significant international initiative by beginning preparations for the Year of International Law, scheduled for 2028. This move reinforces the country's commitment to global diplomacy and the strengthening of international legal frameworks.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov presented a detailed Action Plan for 2026, focusing on three main pillars:
The initiative also includes educational programs aimed at enhancing public legal literacy. Specialized classes on international law and UN activities will be introduced in universities and schools, featuring both national and international experts. Additionally, new textbooks and methodological manuals will be developed, and research competitions will be organized to support young legal scholars.
To raise public awareness, a dedicated section will be launched on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, serving as a centralized information hub for all activities related to the Year of International Law.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that this initiative represents a vital step toward strengthening the international legal foundations of peace and cooperation.
