St. Kitts and Nevis Parliament Passes Judge Alone Trial Amendment Bill

On August 15, 2025, the National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis passed the Judge Alone Trial (Amendment) Bill, 2025, aimed at strengthening the justice system by addressing gaps and ambiguities in the original legislation. Attorney General Garth Wilkin highlighted that since the initial law's enactment, 33 criminal cases were completed in the High Court, with only three conducted as judge-alone trials. The amendments seek to reduce case backlogs and promote more secure, efficient, and fair judicial proceedings. This reform aligns with regional and global movements towards judge-led trials to enhance judicial efficiency and integrity.
