Montserrat Approves $26 Million Supplementary Budget

The Montserrat Legislative Assembly has passed a supplementary appropriation bill, granting the government access to an additional EC$26 million. This budget boost includes over $9.87 million from the consolidated fund and $16.19 million from the development fund, supplementing the previously budgeted amounts for government operations and development projects.

Significant allocations include $15.89 million for the hospital development project and $7 million for settling claims against the government. Other funds are designated for urgent repairs at His Majesty’s Prison, healthcare services, and social services.

Premier Reuben Meade stated that the bill aims to authorize variations in expenditure, moving around existing funds and incorporating new ones to address pressing needs. The bill was passed into law with minor changes, reflecting the government's commitment to addressing critical infrastructure and social service requirements.
