Jordanian Senate Approves Seven Draft Laws, Revises Competition Law

In a recent session chaired by Senate President Faisal Fayez, the Jordanian Senate approved seven draft laws as received from the Lower House of Representatives. Additionally, the Senate returned the amended Competition Law to the deputies after revising two of its articles.

Approved Legislation

The approved bills include amendments to the Electronic Transactions Law, the Notary Public Law, and the Jordanian Endowments, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites Law. Furthermore, the Senate ratified four agreements with Morocco, Uzbekistan, and Spain, focusing on mutual legal and judicial assistance and the transfer of sentenced persons.

Revisions to the Competition Law

Regarding the amended Competition Law, the Senate made specific revisions to ensure clarity and effectiveness. The senators reinstated the phrase "any practices" in Article 3, which pertains to anti-competitive practices, and retained the phrase "or any other form" in Article 6, which defines economic concentration. These revisions aim to strengthen the law's provisions against anti-competitive behavior and ensure comprehensive coverage of economic activities.

International Agreements

The ratified agreements with Spain and Uzbekistan address cooperation in combating and reducing crime, ensuring justice, and facilitating the extradition of individuals. The agreements with Morocco focus on mutual legal and judicial assistance and the transfer of prisoners serving custodial sentences, reflecting Jordan's commitment to international legal cooperation.

These legislative actions demonstrate Jordan's ongoing efforts to refine its legal framework, enhance international cooperation, and address economic and social challenges through comprehensive legal reforms.
