Air China to Resume Flights to North Korea

Air China will resume flights between Beijing and Pyongyang on March 30, 2026, following the recent restart of train services between China and North Korea. According to the airline’s website, flights will be available every Monday until May 18, after which the frequency will decrease to two Mondays in June. These developments mark a continued easing of strict COVID-19 measures that North Korea implemented in 2020, when it sealed its borders, expelled diplomats, and halted nearly all travel. Since then, Pyongyang has gradually relaxed these restrictions, beginning in 2022. In 2023, North Korea’s Air Koryo resumed flights between the capitals. By February 2024, North Korea had started to admit limited foreign tourists, notably from Russia, and later welcomed tourists from other countries as part of a slow reopening process. China remains North Korea’s primary trading partner and ally.
