On July 31, 2025, Cape Verde's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Olavo Correia, announced the government's rejection of an Arbitration Court ruling that ordered the state to pay substantial compensation to CV Interilhas. The dispute centers on alleged breaches of contract related to the concession of inter-island maritime transport services.
The Arbitration Court had ruled in favor of CV Interilhas, recognizing violations of the exclusivity clause in the concession contract and ordering the state to pay over 21 million escudos, along with additional compensation and daily fines for non-compliance.
Minister Correia emphasized the government's commitment to defending the public interest and indicated plans to challenge the ruling through legal channels. He also highlighted concerns regarding the level of service provided under the concession and the need to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
