On February 12, 2026, The Honourable Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong, held a bilateral meeting with The Honorable Alexander G. Gesmundo, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, in Manila.
During the meeting, Chief Justice Chong reaffirmed Brunei's commitment to enhancing regional judicial engagement within ASEAN. Discussions focused on collaboration in judicial education and training, particularly in areas such as court-annexed mediation, dispute resolution, and court administration.
Following the bilateral meeting, Chief Justice Chong and his delegation attended the 2026 Advanced Courses of The Hague Academy of International Law, focusing on the role of international law in advancing ASEAN judiciaries. The program aimed to equip ASEAN judiciaries with advanced international law knowledge to address complex cross-border issues.
The participation underscores Brunei's dedication to judicial education, regional cooperation, and the constructive engagement of international law in advancing justice within ASEAN.
