On 18 November 2025, the Ascension Island Government (AIG) announced plans to establish a new telecommunications service, Ascension Island Mobile Ltd, following the decision by Sure South Atlantic Ltd. to cease operations on the island by 28 February 2026. The new network, designed and built by Omnitouch Network Services in partnership with AIG, aims to ensure continued telecommunications services for the community from 1 March 2026. While the new network will be separate from Sure's existing infrastructure, efforts are being made to minimize disruption and provide information as arrangements are confirmed.
