Two men sentenced in Brunei customs offence case

On July 2, 2026, the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) announced the sentencing of two Chinese nationals for customs offences in Brunei. The individuals were apprehended on May 17, 2026, at the Labu Control Post in Temburong District, found in possession of 192 cans of assorted alcoholic beverages and 14 cigarettes without lawful authorization.

Both men appeared before the Temburong Magistrate’s Court and were charged under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006. One was fined BND10,000 or 10 months' imprisonment if unpaid, while the other was fined BNDs,000 or five months' imprisonment if unpaid. The confiscated items were forfeited to the government for disposal.
