The LB (landsbesluit) placement process is advancing, with 80% of justice workers now placed. The ministry is addressing remaining cases and ensuring transparency in the process. Efforts are also underway to improve working conditions and address personnel concerns within the justice sector.
Plans for a new Point Blanche prison are progressing, with a focus on modernizing facilities to meet international standards. The project aims to enhance security, provide better living conditions for inmates, and improve rehabilitation programs.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed to provide legal aid for individuals under involuntary mental health admission. This initiative ensures that affected persons receive proper legal representation and that their rights are upheld throughout the process.
Sint Maarten hosted the recent JWO, where key topics such as detention reform, law enforcement, border management, and youth crime prevention were discussed. Notable outcomes include the approval of the Judicial Policy Plan for the Caribbean Coast Guard and the adoption of a regional framework to combat organized crime.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Justice plans to continue implementing reforms, focusing on strengthening institutions, supporting justice workers, and maintaining transparency to enhance public safety and trust in the justice system.
