Grenada Commemorates Opening of the New Law Year 2026

On January 12, 2026, the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) marked the commencement of the New Law Year with its traditional Ceremonial Opening proceedings under the theme "The ECSC: Justice that Endures — Anchored in Independence, Strengthened through Trust."

Event Highlights

  • Church Service: The ceremony began with a service at the St. George’s Anglican Church at 8:15 am.
  • Inspection of the Guard of Honour: Following the service, there was an inspection of the Guard of Honour.
  • Procession to the High Court: A formal procession led participants to the High Court.
  • Special Sitting of the Court: The formal Special Sitting commenced at 10:00 am.

Address by Acting Chief Justice

The Acting Chief Justice, Her Ladyship the Hon. Mde. Margaret Price Findlay, delivered the feature address live from the Court in the Commonwealth of Dominica. Her address was streamed live to the other Member States and Territories of the OECS via various media platforms, including the court’s website and Facebook page, as well as the websites and social media pages of the Government Information Services in each member state and territory.

Public Participation

The public was encouraged to participate in the Ceremonial Opening by attending the church service or the Special Sitting, or by watching and listening via the various media platforms.
