Press Statement on the Recent Grant of 49 Turks and Caicos Islander Status

The Governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Her Excellency Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, has granted Islander status to 49 individuals. This decision follows the recommendations of the Islander Status Commission, which is responsible for vetting applications and making recommendations to the Governor. The grant of Islander status is considered a privilege, not a right, and is extended to individuals who have truly integrated into the society and made meaningful contributions to the social, cultural, environmental, and economic life of the islands. The government is committed to ensuring that the process reflects the will, values, and aspirations of the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
