Barbados
On March 18, 2026, the Central Bank of Barbados officially launched BiMPay, the nation's new instant payment system designed to revolutionize financial transactions across the island. BiMPay enables individuals, businesses, and government entities to send and receive payments within 10 seconds, operating 24/7 throughout the year. This development aims to enhance financial inclusion by allowing users without traditional bank accounts to access the system via digital wallets. The initiative is part of the Central Bank's ongoing efforts to modernize Barbados' payment landscape and promote economic stability. Governor Dr. Kevin Greenidge emphasized that BiMPay will facilitate mass payments by the government, reduce the informal economy's size, and improve the country's global competitiveness. The system's launch follows a comprehensive public education program to prepare Barbadians for its adoption. With BiMPay, Barbados joins over 100 countries worldwide that have implemented domestic instant payment systems, marking a significant step forward in the nation's financial sector.
